MEDIA RELEASE
On Peter Norman Day (October 9) the Peter Norman Humanitarian Award in Sport for 2024 was awarded to Mark Barry at a reception held in the Embassy of Australia, Dublin.
The award was co-sponsored by Insaka Ireland, Titans Athletic Club and the Dr. Harry Edwards International Foundation on Sport for Social Change. Citations were written by Dr. John Carlos (Bronze Medal 200M, Mexico Olympics, 1968), Matt Norman (nephew of Peter) and by Ken Mc Cue on behalf of Dr. Edwards.
The selection was made by an international committee of people working in sport and human rights. The project was in partnership with the Embassy of Australia.
In his speech, Ken Mc Cue stated that this inaugural event could become an annual occasion in Australian Diplomatic Missions worldwide.
